Trent Valley Agricultural Preservation Society

If collection nostalgia be your hobby or pastime a welcome awaits you in THE TRENT VALLEY AGRICULTURAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY marquee near the Countryside and Forestry area on the showground.

We are an established independent local group of bygone collectors formed 40 years ago and have regularly displayed at various shows, rallies and ploughing matches through the years

We meet once a month through the winter in Collingham Memorial Hall enjoying visiting speakers. In the summer months we display our exhibitions in all weathers. We are often called “The Museum which travels”.

Each member owns and maintains their individual collections. These range from sewing needles to farm implements and fire engines. Should your interest be in collecting memorabilia new members are always welcome, as are children if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

‘WE OF THE PRESENT PRESERVE THE PAST, FOR THE FUTURE’.

Regia Anglorum

Visit our Saxon village and discover a world of history.  The authentic re-enactment group will eat, sleep and breath authenticity.  Showing many of the skills from striking coins, leather work, weaving, thatching to woodwork.

You can also see them in action, training for battle, demonstrating the Arming of the Knight and what day would not be complete without a good battle to close the day, all seen in the Countryside Area.

Poultry & Waterfowl Display

The Poultry & Waterfowl display is again presented by the Kay and Bett families. Over the last few years they have expanded the display and will have a vast amount of animals for you to view, and in some cases, to stroke or hold.

On display will be a selection of traditional and rare breeds of large and bantam poultry, including Brahmas, Orpingtons, Wyandottes, Sussex, Pekins, Silkies, Cochins, Welsummers, Rhode Island Red and the blue egg layers, Araucana and Legbars. Very popular at the moment are the garden Point of Lay Pullets; Bluebells, Black Rocks and White Stars.

There will also be a good range of Waterfowl with Geese, Khaki Campbell’s and Indian Runners Ducks, and the small but loud Call Ducks that are always in demand.

They hope to compliment the display with Turkeys, Quail, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and this year for the first time, poultry hatching eggs will be available. Besides help, advice and assistance in the marquee they will be able to provide literature, posters and books, sheds, runs and equipment.

There will also be some stock available for purchase should you wish to, alternatively you can reserve or order some for the future. A selection of historical photographs from the 1920/1930s will be on show displaying various breeds of Poultry, Waterfowl, Geese, Turkeys and a wonderful selection of novelty photographs.

These were all taken by Arthur Rice who started taking photographs of animals in 1910. Montages of different breeds are available. So for an educational and fun time, call in and see them, even if only to cuddle a duck!!
