| Due
to expansion in the number of stands,
the food hall will be situated in a marquee
near to the Red Gate. Celebrity chefs
will be giving demonstrations on the stage.
Always
a popular feature at the annual County
Show, the food hall has grown to such
an extent that it has required rehousing
in a marquee. Many more stands are now
able to offer you the best of local food
- so don't miss this on your visit to
the show this year. |

|
There
will be an array of delicious food and
beverage to sample and buy. Alongside
traditional British meats, vegetables,
pies & pasties, you can try bison,
venison, ostrich, even water buffalo!
Local & organic produce will be in
abundance with cheeses, pickles and wines
with a dash of Mediterranean flavour provided
by continental salamis, olives, dried
fruit, nuts; delicatessen foods, also
chillies and curries. Local hand crafted
real ales will be available to sample
through Newark CAMRA. The food hall will
again host the impressive Bacon Carcase
Competition, kindly organised by A W Curtis
& Sons Ltd, specialist pork butchers
& bakers of Lincoln.

The
Bacon Carcase Competition staged at the
Newark & Notts County Show is one
of the last remaining traditional carcase
competitions in the country.
The
competition is for farmers to find out
who can produce the best bacon pigs. A
W Curtis & Sons of Lincoln has been
involved with the event for over 25 years.
They undertake to organise the slaughtering,
curing and smoking of the carcases. Once
prepared they are displayed ready for
judging, which takes place the day before
the Show opens.
|
 |
The
bacon carcases are judged on points. These
are awarded for visual assessment which
is undertaken by an independent judge
and on a measurement basis.
The carcase having the most number of
points wins. Once these have been judged,
A W Curtis sells the bacon from a full
side to smaller joints and steaks. The
competition is educational in as much
as it shows the different character of
the various pig breeds, as well as Curtis’s
demonstrating their butchery skills required
to process a bacon carcase. |
