The Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society (NNAS) is a registered Charity whose primary objective is to support, champion and promote agriculture throughout Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands region.

NNAS also owns Newark Showground and operates a busy trading subsidiary to generate income in support of its charitable activities. The site hosts over 500 events each year including festivals, exhibitions, conferences, banquets, weddings, meetings and a wide variety of specialist activities in 10 different exhibition and meeting venues across the site.

About the role

NNAS is now seeking a General Duties Assistant / Porter to work within the team supporting the busy events schedule. The role will include, amongst other duties, moving furniture, setting out meeting and conference rooms, basic gardening and building maintenance, painting, cleaning, moving products and facilities around the site, traffic management, replenishing stocks, unloading and storing deliveries and supporting customers and colleagues.

This is a hands-on role; often physically challenging and a flexible approach will be vital. There will be both weekend and evening work required as part of a rota and the postholder will frequently have to work on their own initiative. The right person will find the position interesting and varied and will enjoy being part of an established team as it continues to develop the strong levels of support already being provided.

About you:

  • Be physically fit and flexible in your approach to work rosters and frequently changing activities
  • Be organised, proactive and enthusiastic, having a methodical approach with a keen eye for detail and standards
  • Possess a “can do” attitude to work with an ability to adapt to change and balance a variety of key tasks at a given time
  • The ability to work under pressure, be flexible and have a commitment to do everything that is required to get the job done
  • Have good communication skills with the ability to develop positive relationships with customers and colleagues
  • Previous experience in a similar role would be useful but not essential, as would some knowledge of basic H&S and maintenance tasks

Salary and benefits:

A competitive salary package including pension and uniform plus relevant training

Highly accessible location with onsite parking

Complimentary access to a number of events at the Showground

You must be:

  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Able to get to the showground (car owner?) at times required by the role and licenced to drive

Please note: The position is primarily based at Newark Showground, however, travel to customer, supplier and other locations may be required on a periodic basis. The role is based on an annual hours contract and will include some work during the day time, evenings and weekends. Applications to include CV and a cover letter to helen.smith@newarkshowground.com
